Gleason man charged with killing father
A domestic dispute between a mother and her son turned deadly in Gleason Thursday night. A press release issued by the Weakley County Sheriff’s Department states an accusation of murder against Thomas Pruitt, 30, of Gleason. The first stray bullet was fired from a pistol that Thomas Pruitt had during a physical altercation with his mother, Deborah, according to an affidavit of complaint.
A second round fired from the weapon was fatal.
Thomas Pruitt’s father, James, was shot in the forehead when the 61-year-old allegedly attempted to get his son out the front door of the home during the altercation. Local law enforcement officials were dispatched to the Pruitts’ home at 2570 East Grove Road around 8:20 Thursday night.
Thomas Pruitt faces a charge of second-degree murder. He is being housed without bond in the Weakley County Detention Center. Pruitt is scheduled for arraignment in Weakley County General Sessions Court Monday afternoon.
The WCSD, Gleason Police Department and the Tennessee Highway Patrol handled the case.
