Old Timey Live Music will begin at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Obion County Habitat for Humanity complex lobby in the former KT sales building on North Division Street just west of Union City First United Methodist Church.
The entertainment is free.
“We’ll meet for some ‘heavy duty’ singin’/pickin’/playin’ and jammin’ again this month,” said a spokesman. “There’s no better fun for those who love the ‘Old Timey Music’ and no better event for making good friends. It’s an excellent event to attend for helping beginners get started on playing any stringed instrument. You’ll be sure to make new friends and enjoy playing and singing along. Visitors will always be welcome, just to listen or to sing along or pat your foot and slap your knee,” the spokesman said. “Bring those instruments — fiddles, guitars, mandolins, banjos, basses, harmonicas, even ‘jawharps,’ papers and combs, kazoos, percussion sticks, washboards, ‘wash tub’ basses or anything else that makes music.”
For more information, call Charles Callis at 536-5679 or Judy Underwood at 885-8883.
Although amplifiers and microphones are usually not seen in old timey music jams and festivals, members of the local group have been experimenting by having some microphones and music stands for the singers and pickers to use. Participants are encouraged to ‘take turns’ and to come to the area where the mics and music stands are set up to play or perform a song for everyone to enjoy.
