Miss Angel, Thornton honored with events
Several festivities have been given for Whitney Angel of Union City and Ben Thornton of Brownsville prior to their upcoming wedding.
The couple will exchange vows Saturday at 6 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Union City. Music will begin at 5:30.
The bride-elect is the daughter of Barbara Angel and Eugene Angel Jr., both of Union City. She is the granddaughter of the late Kenneth Sublett and Wanda Sublett of Union City and the late Eugene Angel Sr. and Peggy Angel of Hornbeak.
The groom-elect is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Macon Thornton of Gallatin. His grandparents are Bobbie Simmons and the late James Simmons and the late Dr. John C. Thornton and Lorraine Thornton, all of Brownsville.

Guests enjoyed a barbecue meal with all the trimmings.
An outdoor gas grill was presented to the couple by the hostesses.
A miscellaneous shower was hosted by the women of Hornbeak Baptist Church.
The honoree wore a black and white pleated sleeveless dress with a wide band of black emphasizing the waist. She was presented a hand-made knitted corsage made into a rose which can be used as a dishcloth.
Cake, mints, nuts and punch were served to the guests.
Special guests were the bride-elect’s mother and grandmothers.
Viola’s Restaurant at Oakslea Place in Jackson was the setting for the bridesmaid luncheon. Hostess for the event was the bride-elect’s aunt, Annette Ferguson of Union City.
Wearing a white cotton halter dress with godlet lace inserts, Miss Angel greeted the guests in the open foyer of the 1860-era colonial/Greek Revival-style dwelling.
Guests were served their choice of entrees from a “Gone With the Wind” menu. Selections consisted of roasted peppers, broiled chicken and cavatelli pasta; roasted chicken breast salad with honey mustard dressing; or fettuccini alfredo with Italian salad and garlic bread. Beverages were iced tea and water. A delicious Italian wedding cake was served for dessert.
Red roses and iris in a glass vase centered each linen-covered table in the dining area. After the meal, the honoree presented the bridesmaids and flower girls with pieces of jewelry to accent their wedding day attire.
