Kentucky Writers Conference aimed at Christian authors

Karen Moore Artl, senior acquisitions editor for Thomas Nelson Publishers, will be the featured speaker for the 12th Annual Kentucky Christian Writers Conference to be held June 20-21 at Northside Baptist Church in Elizabethtown.
This year’s theme, “Be Thou My Vision,” originates in an old Irish folk hymn, Ms. Artl said. “Wisdom and guidance are basic tools to Christian writers, and asking God to ‘be the vision’ connects us to the gifts He has given us.”
She said most writers want to know the Holy Spirit directs each step and leads them to a deeper vision for their work to impact readers in a powerful way.”
Ms. Artl is a former teacher who has published several books of her own. Having worked in the greeting card industry and in product development, she has extensive training and experience in marketing, having worked on the Strawberry Shortcake™ brand and on several Disney licensed products.
KCWC’s mission is to provide an annual interdenominational event to equip and encourage writers in their quest for publication and to provide a safe environment where writers can discover their gifts and share their work.
“The quest for publication has been successful for some past attendees,” said Emily Akin of Union City, publications chairman for the conference. “I had work published as a result of contacts made my first year at KCWC.”
In addition to the keynote addresses by Karen Artl, the conference includes workshops, interest groups, networking opportunities, a bookstore and free resources. Editors will be in attendance, and a limited number of private appointments will be available.
Participants are encouraged to pre-register through the Web site or through the mail. Walk-in registration for the full conference, or for the Friday session only, begins at 9 a.m. June 20. The Saturday registration begins at 8:30 a.m. for Saturday-only registrants. Registration fee for two days is $140, payable in advance or at the door. Single-day registration fee is $110.
