A charge against a Lake County High School teacher was dismissed Wednesday in Lake County Juvenile Court.
Tracy Hinson, 38, was charged with contributing to the unruly behavior of a minor as a result of alleged inappropriate conduct with a male teenaged student, according to authorities.
As the proceedings began Wednesday, District Attorney General Phil Bivens told Judge Danny Goodman that he wished to dismiss the charge against Mrs. Hinson “in this court at this time,” The State Gazette newspaper in Dyersburg reported. The charge was dismissed without prejudice, a legal term that means it could be resurrected.
The case remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Department.
According to a press release from the Lake County Board of Education, the school system will continue to cooperate with authorities in the ongoing investigation and Mrs. Hinson will remain on suspension without pay pending an investigation regarding allegations that board policy has been violated. No further comments will be made by the board during the investigation.
Mrs. Hinson is a 16-year veteran of the Lake County School System, teaching chemistry, geometry and Foundations II (pre-algebra). She is also a longtime cheerleader and dance team coach and a two-time Lake County Teacher of the Year, according to The Lake County Banner.
