Block party set

When weather threatened earlier this month, the Union City Elementary School block party was rescheduled. This evening of fun and activity for the family will take place Friday from 5-8 p.m. at the school, located on South Miles Avenue.
Activities include a high-energy lip sync contest, the silent auction which will focus on the art work of children who were involved in the after-school enrichment program at the school, games and activities for children, concessions and displays of enrichment program projects.
The highlight of the evening will occur when UCES principal Michael Paul Miller makes his way to the roof of the building to spend the night and fulfill his pledge to students, made at the beginning of the school year. Students completed many more than the 100,000 books they had promised to read — more than 107,000, in fact — in order to see their principal “camp out” on the roof.
The community is invited to attend this fun evening and celebrate another successful school year, said a spokesman for the PTO, which is sponsoring the event.
