Dresden can’t get revenge vs. Vikes

Dresden can’t get revenge vs. Vikes
Having defeated the Lions only days before in the District 14-A Baseball Tournament, the Humboldt Vikings erased any chance of revenge for Dresden early in the contest Monday night. The Vikings scored in bunches to take the 11-2 win.
The Vikes put four runs on the board in the first inning when a Chris Brasfield triple drove home the first run and a Clint Brown sacrifice brought in Brasfield. Before the first inning was over Humboldt were in front, 4-0.
In the second inning, the Vikings scored their fifth run on a Brasfield single down the right field line to bring home Joey Blankenship and Humboldt picked up another run in the fourth when Blankenship came home on a wild throw to first base.
The Lions put a run on the board in the fifth when Daniel Harris tripled and Greg Alderdice singled to score Harris and make the score 6-1 in favor of the Vikings.
Humboldt answered in the bottom of the inning, however, when Drew Hopkins and Daniel Duggin were walked and two runs came in on a wild pitch and a grounder. Justin Hatler was sent in to pitch in relief of starter Eric Evans, but the Vikings scored two more runs on a single and a wild throw home to make the score 10-1.
In the sixth inning, the Lions added another run when Matt Chappell singled to bring home Dale Hutcherson and pull the Lions a run closer at 10-2, but the Vikings scored again in the bottom of the sixth and held Dresden scoreless in the final inning to win 11-2.
The loss ends Dresden’s season. Lion seniors playing their final game in a Dresden uniform included Roe Hughes, Dwayne Bailey, Greg Alderdice, Eric Allen, Justin Hatler and Matthew Chappell.
