A newspaper rack was burglarized sometime Sunday in front of The Messenger’s office at 613 East Jackson St. in Union City.
A newsroom employee told police he arrived at the newspaper office about 11 a.m., with his vehicle parked in front of the newspaper rack at the front of the building. A customer knocked on the office door shortly after noon to report that someone had broken into the rack, according to a Union City Police Department report.
Police observed pry marks and a bent door on the rack, which was missing all of its newspapers. Another employee unlocked the rack’s money compartment but was unable to gain access due to the frame’s being bent. Apparently entry was not made to the money compartment, police reported.
