Seniors and leader honored at church

The Messenger. 05.08.08
The first Sunday in May was designated Senior Adult Day at Union City’s First Church of God at 415 South Miles Ave. Approximately 30 “Golden Eagles” were recognized by the congregation. Music for the morning worship service included favorite old hymns. The message, “The Old Time Religion,” was delivered by the director of senior ministries, Wayne McLean.
Gene Gray, head usher, was presented a plaque and honored as the senior adult of the year.
Following morning worship, the seniors were treated to a special lunch prepared and served by the youth of the church, under the supervision of their leaders.
The Rev. Mel Jacobs is pastor.
In other news of the congregation, McLean received a plaque and certificate from Union City Manor Nursing Home recently as the 2008 Volunteer of the Year. All volunteers were recognized at a reception at the facility during National Volunteer Recognition Week.
McLean conducts Bible studies and sing-a-longs, makes visits to individual patients and sends residents birthday cards and notes of encouragement at the facility.
