Weekly ‘Pop’ event
highlighted by ace

Poplar Meadows Country Club held its weekly scramble Wednesday, where the winning score was almost 8-under par.
Shooting 8-under par was the team of Randy Barnes, Jere Baldridge, Austin Maxwell, Richard Webb and Paul Webb.
One stroke back at 7-under par with one hole to play and facing long odds was the team of Jim Baker, Amos Davis, Gary Gill and Tiger Haag. The lone hole remaining was the 145-yard No. 6, and Baker, Davis and Haag took their swipes at the par 3 with varied success. The last to play, Gill grabbed his 6-iron and took aim at the pin. Moments later, his team took a one-stroke lead at 9-under. Gill had hit a hole in one.
The weekly scramble begins at 5:30 p.m. each week. The cost is $10 for members and $15 for non-members.
Anyone interested in participating should call 885-3650 by 2 p.m. Wednesday.

UC to face Trenton
for 14A baseball title

Cord Anderson hit a two-run double to highlight a four-run sixth and help Trenton rally for a 9-6 victory over Humboldt in the loser’s bracket finals of the District 14A Baseball Tournament Wednesday.
The win puts Peabody into today’s chamionship round against Union City. Trenton would have to beat UC twice to win the title, while the Tornadoes need just one triumph to win the 14A crown.
Both teams have already locked up berths in Monday’s regional tournament with the district champion to host the runnerup from District 13, and the 14A second-place team to travel to the 13A titleist.
Today’s first game is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. at Elam Stadium with a second game, if necessary, set to follow immediately afterward.
UC edged Trenton 3-2 on Tuesday to even the season series at one game apiece.
