TSWA Hall of Famers
made known for 2008

Bobby Hall, Claude “Blinkey” Horn and Ted Riggs have been elected into the Tennessee Sports Writers Hall of Fame.
The induction cermony will take place July 10 at Cumberland University in Lebanon at 6 p.m.
Hall worked for almost 40 years as a writer for the Commercial Appeal in Memphis. He covered everything from the University of Memphis to Ole Miss to Tennessee. He eventually specialized in golf, where he became one of America’s top golf writers.
Horn was sports editor of The Nashville Tennessean following Grantland Rice and preceding Raymond Johnson. He developed the concept of a state high school basketball tournament and prompted the newspaper to sponsor the state tournament from 1921 until 1929, when the TSSAA took over the tournament.
Riggs worked for United Press International in 1952, then joined the Knoxville News Sentinel in 1953. He was in charge of high school sports from 1958 until he became assistant sports editor in 1981.

Brimfield hurt his ankle during the Vols’ Orange and White spring game.

Ex-Texas assistant
to help Lady Vols

KNOXVILLE (AP) — Tennessee has hired former Texas assistant Kathy Harston as basketball operations director for the Lady Vols.
Tennessee coach Pat Summitt says Harston, who served 18 years under legendary Longhorns coach Jody Conradt, brings “a wealth of experience and knowledge in all phases of the game and operations” to Tennessee.
She replaces Danielle Donehow, who left Tennessee in April to become chief operating officer for the WNBA’s Atlanta Dream.
A Kodak All-American as a player and a Texas native, Harston became an academic counselor for Texas’ athletic program after Conradt retired in 2007.
