|Bats desert, oust OC |
|Run support, or the lack thereof, has been a recurring theme for Obion Central this season. |
And as was the case many times throughout the regular season, the bats deserted the Lady Rebels in an 1-0 defeat to Dyersburg during District 13AA Tournament loser’s bracket action.
OC mustered just a pair of hits on the evening with D’burg’s third inning tally enough to decide the game.
The loss eliminates Central (14-26) short of the Region 7AA Tournament for the 11th straight campaign.
Today’s action at the 13AA tourney hosted in Troy has Dyersburg playing Milan in the loser’s bracket at 5 p.m. with the winner’s bracket final pitting Westview against Crockett County to follow.
Thursday evening has Dyersburg against either Crockett County or Westview in the loser’s bracket finale at 5 with the 13AA championship game set for Friday at 5.
On Tuesday, Emily Taylor gave up five hits in five innings of work in the loss.
Kacee Eaves came on in relief and pitched two innings with nothing allowed.
At the plate, Liesel Grossner doubled to account for OC’s only extra-base hit while Eaves offered a single.
“We were so much better at the end of the season than we were when we started this year,” first-year Central coach Tommy Victory said. “I thought we had a great chance to win this tournament, but the one thing that has plagued us all year got us and that was scoring runs.”
The game was the final in a Lady Rebel softball jersey for four-year starter and center fielder Erin Bing.
