UT Martin men’s team
inks post from Africa

UT Martin head men’s basketball coach Bret Campbell has been searching for the right person to step in and give his defense a boost.
Well, the search is over.
Campbell has announced he signed Dominque Mpondo, (pronounced POND-O) a 6-10, 240-pound post player from Eastern Oklahoma State College.
Mpondo averaged 8.5 points, 8.3 rebounds and 5.2 blocks per game for head coach Brenton Duncan.
“Dominque’s size and athletic ability will be a big boost on the defense end for us,” Campbell said. “He will help us with rebounding and altering shots.”
Mpondo, from Cameroon, Africa, prepped in St. Jean Eudes France.

Rare hole-in-one

Tansil’s Skyhawks
sign Ala. juco guard

UT Martin head women’s basketball coach Tara Tansil has announced the addition of point guard Maryam Kirk to the Skyhawks roster for the 2008 season.
Kirk joins the UTM program from Northwest Shoals Community College in Muscle Shoals, Ala., where she helped her team to a 24-9 record.
Last season, Kirk emerged as a starter for her squad, acting as a floor general in an up-tempo offense. In addition to leading the team in assists with 94 she also chipped in four points a night.
Kirk also poured in a season-high 17 points against Lawson State, while setting a season high for three-pointers and free throws made.
“Maryam (Kirk) will add experience and depth to our guard position,” said Tansil. “She comes from an up-tempo run and gun system and is an explosive player that looks to pass first, but can also score when we need her to. We expect her to make some valuable contributions to our lineup next season from the start.”
Kirk becomes the fourth new addition to the Skyhawks roster for the 2008 season.
