James Jones Jr., 76, of Tiptonville, father of Jerry Jones of Union City, died April 29, 2008, at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Pleasant View Baptist Church in Sharon, with the Rev. E.N. Coleman officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Cemetery in Sharon.
Friends may call at the church Sunday from 6-8 p.m.
Heavenly Gates Funeral Home in Martin is in charge of arrangements.
He was born Dec. 29, 1931, in Gibson County, son of the late Lou Emma and James Jones Sr. He grew up in Gibson County and moved to Greenfield as a young man. Later, he lived in Sharon before moving to Tiptonville, where he spent 40 years.
He had been an agriculture worker and had also been employed at the Seed House and the Potato House, both in Sharon. In Tiptonville, he was an employee of the City of Tiptonville Transportation Department.
He was a member of Rock of Ages CME Church in Tiptonville and Mount Tabor Masonic Lodge No. 55 there.
He had been married to the former Pauline Jordan and is also survived by his wife, the former Annie Bell Tipton; two sisters, Mildred Jones and Laura Pigue, both of Sharon; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Joe A. and Trissia Jones of Sharon and Donnell and Cheryl Jones of Martin; two aunts, Naomi Ward of Martin and Emily Wilkins of Dyer; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
