BOWLING FOR A CURE — The Thursday Morning Ladies Bowling League recently held an event that ended a month-long fund-raising effort for the USBC sponsored “Bowl for the Cure.” League members used several methods to raise more than $850 for breast cancer research. Besides their own donations, some members got friends, family members and co-workers to sponsor them for the event at a penny a pin or to make outright donations. Bowlers also paid a penalty for leaving eight pins or for leaving the eight-pin standing. There were prizes for getting a mark when there was a red pin in the rack. Refreshments were served. According to league president Pat Hinkle, the group more than doubled its goal and hopes to make the event even bigger next year. “We would like to thank all the people who helped us to raise money. We donated these funds in honor of league member Jodie Jock, who recently underwent treatment for a reoccurence of breast cancer. We would like to especially thank Josh Holdeman of Southlane Bowling Center for his willingness to go the extra mile in helping us to make this effort so successful,” said Ms. Hinkle. Among those participating were (standing, from left) Barbara Gallimore, Jeanne Grubbs, Pam Frantz, Marilyn Hill, Dorothy Shaw, Ruth Aldridge, Janice Huey, Judie Jock, Shelby Taylor, Louise Thorne, Pat Hinkle, Elnora Johnson, Sherri Hanna, Robbie McWherter, Jane Venice, (kneeling) Anna Burkeen, Priscilla Dean, Theresa Rollins and Betty Lyon.
