Amish man pleads not guilty to not displaying safety sign on buggy
CLINTON, Ky. (AP) — An Amish man who was fined in February by a Mayfield judge for not displaying a slow-moving vehicle symbol on his buggy has pleaded not guilty to a similar charge in Clinton.
Emanuel Yoder is due back in the Hickman County courtroom in western Kentucky on June 2 for a pretrial conference.
Yoder and two other members of the Amish order have appealed their earlier citations in Graves County, for which they were fined $20 dollars plus $128 dollars in court costs.
The men say placing state-mandated flashing lights and the orange triangular symbol on their buggies would violate their religious beliefs that prohibit possessions that are too worldly.
