George Herbert Shelton
George Herbert Shelton, 68, of Gleason, died Saturday, April 26, 2008, at the Regional Hospital of Jackson.
Services were held Monday at McKenzie Funeral Home, with Bro. Brett Mebane officiating. Burial with honors by the Weakley County Sheriff’s Department will be held at the Carroll Memorial Gardens in McKenzie.
Shelton was born Feb. 27, 1940, in Belleville, Ill., son of the late George and Grace Daniels Shelton. He was a former police officer in Ridgely, a former chief of police in Tiptonville and a retired investigator for the Weakley County Sheriff Department, with a total of 31 years in law enforcement. He attended Twin City Community Church in Hollow Rock.
Survivors include his wife, Vera Carroll Moore Shelton of Gleason; three daughters, Karen (George) Johnson of Dyersburg, Theresa (Ricky) Scott and Debbie Moore, both of McKenzie; five grandchildren, Leigh Ann Johnson of Knoxville, Trae and (Kayla) Johnson of Clarksville, Lauren Scott of McKenzie, Mandi Johnson of Dyersburg and Kaitlin Scott of McKenzie; and one great-granddaughter, Addison Johnson of Clarksville.
