Sheriff’s department removes dogs from Obion County home
Several dogs apparently abandoned were removed Friday afternoon from an Obion County home.
Obion County Sheriff Jerry Vastbinder said four adult dogs and seven puppies were removed from the Rives area residence and taken to Reelfoot Animal Hospital for treatment.
No charges have yet been filed in the incident, which remains under investigation today.
A local animal control officer and animal rescue worker contacted the Obion County Sheriff’s Department about 3:50 p.m. Friday to report the suspected animal neglect. A deputy who responded to the area was told that several dogs had been abandoned at the home.
At the residence, the deputy reported he observed two adult dogs that were “near death,” as well as seven puppies and two other adult dogs. A neighbor told the deputy that the occupants of the home had moved out recently and had left the adult dogs tied without food or water, but he said he had let the dogs loose and had been giving them food and water, according to a sheriff’s department report.
The dogs were taken to the local animal clinic by animal rescue volunteers, who also photographed the scene where the dogs were found.
