Mrs. Tanner to speak at UTM alumni brunch
Betty Ann Tanner, wife of Congressman John Tanner, is scheduled to speak at a gathering of the Obion County University of Tennessee at Martin alumni chapter.
The brunch is set for May 10 at 10:30 a.m. in Room 230 of Boling University Center. Cost is $20 person.
Mrs. Tanner, a self-employed interior designer and president of Betty Ann Tanner Accessories, is a 1968 graduate of the University of Tennessee. She is originally from Huntingdon and now lives in Union City with her husband. She serves on numerous boards in the Washington, D.C., area, including the Ford’s Theatre Society and Meridian International Center.
The Tanners travel in his capacity as chairman of the House of Representatives delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, the legislative branch of NATO. Mrs. Tanner’s mission-related travel includes work in Nairobi, Kenya and Sophia, Bulgaria.
She will share her experiences of the places she has traveled, the people she has met and the causes she supports. She has won the hearts of politicians and dignitaries around the world with her southern charm and those attending will be intrigued by her life outside of the boundaries of rural West Tennessee, a spokesman said.
