Bethel to welcome Memphis Sound

Bethel to welcome Memphis Sound

This Saturday, March 15, Bethel College will welcome back the now DCI World Champion Memphis Sound Drum Corp as they return to McKenzie to hold rehearsals and auditions to prepare for the 2008 drum corps tour.
Memphis Sound hopefuls as well as members will arrive at Bethel’s Center for Performing Excellence (in the former Gary Simmons car dealership on Highway 79) at around 3:30 p.m., Saturday afternoon, and will be formally welcomed by Bethel, McKenzie and community representatives at 4 p.m. The group will then open the doors of the center to invite the community to a spaghetti supper fundraiser that will help the group offset 2008 tour expenses.
Anyone interested can purchase spaghetti supper tickets at the door for $7 each. Meals include spaghetti, bread, salad, dessert and a drink. Children’s tickets are available for $5 each. The fundraiser will begin at 4:30 p.m. and end at 7.
The Memphis Sound first came to Bethel last summer when it held its summer rehearsal and camp as well as an exhibition show on the McKenzie campus. Since that time, the group has come back to Bethel for weekend rehearsals and camps and has found what Memphis Sound representatives have said is “a place to call home” in the Center for Performance Excellence.
“We are so very proud to have such a fine group back with us,” said Bethel President Bob Prosser. “And we hope that the relationship we’ve built with them continues to grow and flourish.”
