An assault charge has been dismissed against a Union City man who was charged last month in connection with an incident in which a chemical was allegedly placed in another man’s soft drink at Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.
The charge against Walter Scott Hayes of 625 East Main St., Union City, was dismissed Tuesday in Obion County General Sessions Court, according to a deputy clerk.
Hayes had been cited into court on an assault charge levied following the incident about 7 p.m. Feb. 10, according to an Obion County Sheriff’s Department report. A sheriff’s deputy was summoned to the emergency room of Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City, where Byron Sanford of Union City reported someone had put a chemical in his 20-ounce soft drink in the tire room at Goodyear. Sanford told the deputy he noticed the smell of the chemical when he took a drink out of the bottle.
