Samuel Rochelle “Sam” Odom Jr., 68, of Union City died Feb. 27, 2008, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at White-Ranson Funeral Home, with Dr. Vann Kissell officiating. Burial will follow in Antioch Cemetery in the Crystal community.
Friends may call at the funeral home 5-8 p.m. Friday.
The family requests that memorials be made to LeBonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis.
Pallbearers will be Zach Roberts, Ryan Roberts, Terry Roberts, Kirk Ross, Jamie Roach and Herbie Arnett.
He was born May 22, 1939, in Gibson County, son of the late Laverne (Owen) and Samuel Rochelle Odom Sr. He married the former Bobbie Sue Alexander June 1, 1961. She died Feb. 4, 2004. He had been employed at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. in Union City for 27 years and had twice served as president of the United Steelworkers Union 878. A U.S. Navy veteran, he was a member of Bells Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church near Rutherford and was also a Mason.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Stacy and Mike Arnett of Union City; two grandsons, Mikey Arnett and Mitch Arnett, both of Union City; his brother, Johnny Odom of Union City; his uncle and aunt, Austin and Elaine Odom of Union City; two nephews and his niece, Ryan Roberts of Troy and Zach Roberts and Hope Ross, both of Union City; and several great nieces and great nephews.
He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Glenda Faye Littlefield, Wilda Kaye Odom and Suzy Roberts.
