Nolen Thompson, 91, of Union City died at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City Feb. 10, 2008.
Services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at White-Ranson Funeral Home, with the Revs. Henry Callison and Melvin Poe officiating. Burial will follow in East View Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home 5-8 this evening.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Tarver, Gerald Cox, Terry Bass, Jerry Regen, Joe Sanford and Jimmy Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Silas Stephens Jr., Jimmy Baggett, James Curlin, Glen Goff, James Caldwell, Ronald Bowers, Danny Crawford, Eddie Cassetty, Bobby James, Dale Pate, Wesley Thompson, Marty Tipps, Tony Tipps, Gary Lewis, Russ Thompson, Gary Thompson, David Whitner, Danny Thompson, James May and Jimmy Poe.
The family requests that memorials be made to Alzheimer’s Association at 225 North Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601-7633 or to Calvary Baptist Church in Union City.
He was born Feb. 17, 1916, in Hickman, Ky., son of the late Robert “Bob” and Della (Kennemore) Thompson. He married the former Nellie Williams April 21, 1934. She survives. He had been employed at the former American Metals and the former Lear-Siegler in Union City as a head set-up man for 23 years and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
Survivors also include his son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Liz Thompson of Union City; two granddaughters and their spouses, Shanna and Keith Via of Hornbeak and Nikki and Steven Lee of Union City; and two great-grandchildren, Bradley Via and Jamie Via, both of Hornbeak.
He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Homer Thompson, Reuben Thompson, W.M. Thompson and Charles Thompson; three sisters, Myrtle Bass, Adeline Phipps and Willie Bowers; an infant brother, Timmy Thompson; and an infant sister, Margie Thompson.
