Personal: Bill Roper

Union Citian Bill Roper for many years during his adult life made it a practice to visit friends in the nursing homes of Obion County. A recent fall has forced him to cease this practice, at least for the time being, according to R.C. and Jean Forrester.
“Both he and the residents have lost something of importance and Obion County has lost this contribution to the welfare of some of its citizens,” the Forresters said.
Roper recently contributed to The Messenger a memoir of his 50 years on First Street in Union City, describing the businesses and people of years past. His actions have been known to only a few, but should be recognized and acknowledged to all in the community.
“During his time of illness, we are asking that his work be acknowledged by card or letter, appropriately enough during this Valentine’s Day season. Please send Bill our greetings and thanks to cheer him at this time of his life,” they added.
