KSP steps up patrols The Messenger. 01.30.08 With the Super Bowl set for Sunday, the Kentucky State Police will be stepping up patrols in order to make sure everyone enjoys a safe game day. Starting this weekend, troopers in the Post 1 district — which includes Fulton County, Ky. — will be focusing their efforts on seat belt, speed and DUI (driving under the influence) enforcement. In recent years, nearly half of all traffic-related fatalities have been caused by impaired drivers, according to the KSP, which is looking to combat the trend with saturation patrols, traffic safety checkpoints and speed enforcement details. Post 1 troopers have been given limited time off during this coming weekend to ensure a wide area of enforcement. While citizens are encouraged to enjoy the final football game of the season, they are also reminded to utilize a designated driver if necessary, according to the KSP. Drivers are also being reminded to report suspected impaired drivers by contacting the KSP toll-free at 1-800-222-5555. Callers can remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number, if possible. |
