Three Skyhawks earn OVC honors
UT Martin men’s basketball players Gerald Robinson and Lester Hudson earned Ohio Valley Conference honors today for their efforts this past week against Samford and Jacksonville State. Skyhawk women’s basketball player Crystal Fuller was named the OVC’s Women’s Player of the Week for her career efforts in two losses last week.
Robinson, a 6-9, 230-pound senior from Los Angeles, Calif., was named the OVC’s Player of the Week. He averaged 20.5 points, 11.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals per game last week as UT Martin won a pair of road games to even its OVC record at 6-6 on the season.
Robinson hit 60 percent (12-of-20) from the field, 58.3 percent (7-of-12) from 3-point range and 83.3 percent (10-of-12) from the free-throw line. He scored 26 points and grabbed a career-high 19 rebounds — the highest output in the OVC this season — in an 81-70 victory at Jacksonville State; eighteen (18) of his 26 points in that game came in the first half. He added 15 points in a 61-43 win at Samford.
Hudson, a 6-3, 190-pound junior from Memphis, was named Newcomer of the Week for the fourth time in the past five weeks after averaging 20.0 points, 11.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game last week as the Skyhawks won a pair of road contests. He hit 40.5 percent (15-of-37) from the field and 33.3 percent (6-of-18) from the 3-point line in the games. Hudson scored 20 points in both games and added 10 rebounds in a win over Samford and a career-best 12 rebounds at Jacksonville State. The double-doubles were his sixth and seventh of the season, which is tied for the most in the OVC. He also has a rare quadruple-double this season.
Crystal Fuller, a 6-0 senior forward from Huntingdon, put together some big numbers in her team’s road losses to Samford and to Jacksonville State.
Fuller netted 25 points at Samford and followed that up with a career-best 35 points at Jacksonville State last week. During that span, she shot 62.1 percent from the floor and 77.4 percent from the free-throw line. Fuller made a career-best 15 free throws and attempted a career-high 19 free throws against JSU.
