Police: Son of Humboldt woman admits to decapitating his mother

JACKSON (AP) — Gibson County Sheriff’s officials say the son of a missing Humboldt woman has admitted decapitating and dismembering his mother.
Gibson County Sheriff Chuck Arnold told WBBJ-TV in Jackson that David Climer Jr. used a power saw to cut off the limbs of Dorris Deberry in the kitchen of the home they shared. Arnold said Climer admitted in a videotaped confession to burning his mother’s head and throwing the remains in a dumpster.
He was charged Saturday with first-degree murder.
“He has been calm … he’s not agitated,” Arnold said.
Officials estimate that Deberry died sometime around Nov. 24. She was first reported missing by her sister Jan. 9 and was found dead Friday in a corn field in north Madison County after police say Climer told them where to look.
Police say Climer still says he is innocent of murder and that his mother was dead when he chopped up her body.
“He has not told us why or how this occurred,” Arnold said. “We’ve asked him why he did it and he has not answered that. The only thing he’ll say is that she died.”
Climer is scheduled to be arraigned at 9 a.m. Wednesday in Gibson County General Sessions Court in Trenton.
