Al-Anon and Alateen are simple and positive 12-step programs that work for those with family members or friends who have drinking problems or are alcoholics. There is help! Meetings are at 8 p.m. Tuesday nights at St. James Episcopal Church at 422 Church St. in Union City. For more information, call 885-3039 or 335-3228.
Alcoholics Anonymous meetings in Union City are open to anyone who has a desire to stop drinking. Meetings are held 5:30 p.m. Sundays and 8 p.m. Tuesdays at St. James Episcopal Church, where the rear entrance is on Exchange Street. These are closed meetings. Open meetings are held 8 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays and 8 p.m. Fridays at St. James Episcopal Church. Closed meetings are for alcoholics and addicts only. Open meetings are for anyone interested in attending.
Alzheimer’s Support Group is meeting at Reelfoot Manor in Tiptonville at 1034 Reelfoot St. the first Tuesday of each month from 6-7 p.m. Support coordinator is the manor’s social services director Alisha Bargery. Amputee Support Group will meet in the fourth floor rehab gym at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. The sessions are open to amputees, their families and friends. For more information, call William Pulley at (731) 425-5237.
Anchor House is a half-way house for men coming out of alcohol or drug treatment programs. Limited to six men, the home is in a rural setting outside Union City and offers a supervised living environment. Food and board are provided for a low cost by this non-profit organization. Breastfeeding 101 meets the third Wednesday of each month from 6-8 p.m. at the Women’s Wellness Center lobby at Parkway Regional Hospital in Fulton. There is a minimal cost. Call Cathy McDonald, patient education coordinator, at 1 (270) 472-1612.
Cancer Support Group, a support group open to all cancer patients, meets the fourth Friday of each month. Those attending may enjoy a dutch treat luncheon. The Women’s Cancer Support Group is no longer meeting independently, but all former members and all breast cancer patients are welcome in this new group, according to organizers.
CASA/Lifeline is a support group with a Christian perspective, relying on anonymity, for those with addictions. The group meets Fridays at 6 p.m. Call (731) 225-8604 for info. about location and program.
Celebrate Recovery is a 12-step, Christ-centered recovery program at Ridgely First Baptist Church. For information about meeting date and time, call (731) 264-5972 or (731) 343-0862. The program is for anyone battling an addiction, a habit or hang-up.
Cocaine Anonymous (Tenn. location) is a 12-step recovery program open to anyone who has a desire to stop using cocaine or any mood-mind altering substance. Meetings are held each Thursday at 8 p.m. at the Casey/Johnson Community Center, located at the corner of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Greenwood Street in Union City.
Cocaine Anonymous (Ky. location) fellowship has temporarily changed its meeting location to First Church of God at 405 West Main St. in Hickman, Ky. Meetings are 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 10 a.m. Saturdays. Cocaine Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other so they may solve their common problem and help others recover from addiction. Anyone who has the desire to stop using cocaine and other mind-altering substances is encouraged to attend, a spokesman said. COPE (Comforting Other People Emotionally) is a support group aimed at helping people deal with the gamit of emotions brought on by the suicide of a friend or family member. The group meets at 7 p.m. the first Friday of each month at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church near Rives. Dyersburg Diabetic Support Group meets every third Thursday at 7 p.m. in the ground floor classroom of Methodist Hospital of Dyersburg. All meetings are free and open to all who are interested.

Hope, a self-help support group for those suffering from depression, anxiety and/or panic attacks will meet in the conference room at Parkway Regional Hospital in Fulton 6-7:30 p.m. Thursdays. Meetings are open to all who suffer from either or both disorders. Friends and family members are welcome to attend as well, organizers say. Kenn-Tenn Supporters is a support group for those who are depressed or who have been diagnosed with a mood disorder, such as manic depression. The group shares experiences, feelings and stories to help others and learn from each other. It is open to those from 10 years old to adults and all information shared is confidential. Man to Man Support Group, sponsored by the American Cancer Society, offers free and confidential support to men with prostate cancer and their families. Quarterly meetings are held at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City in the cafeteria conference room. Northwest Safeline sponsors weekly support group meetings on Tuesday afternoons in Obion County for victims of domestic violence. The purpose of the meetings will be to allow those who have lived and suffered in abusive situations to begin to recover by talking about their experiences with others, according to a spokesman. Sunrise Outreach Center offers support services to anyone 18 years old or older receiving mental health services now or in the past. The program provides socialization, education, support and lots of fun. Hours are Tuesdays through Fri-days from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturdays from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. The center is located at 110 East Church St. in Union City. Transportation is available.
