The Fine Arts Club of Martin met Wednesday, Jan. 2, in the beautiful home of Mrs. George Pritchett. Assisting Mrs. Pritchett as hostess were Mrs. Donnie Davis and Mrs. Phil Wade. A delicious dessert of Creole Bread Pudding with coffee was served to 18 members and three guests. President, Mrs. Michael Hinds had all members read the collect. A memorial was given to the Weldon Library in memory of Wade Barton.
The program for the day was “Discover the French Riviera” by Mrs. Bob Peeler and Mrs. Sandford Truitt. They traveled from Memphis to Amsterdam and then on to Nice, France and the Mediterranean, which provided a stunning welcome to 23 Southerners. The locations visited were the flower market in Nice, the perched medieval town of St. Paul with historical buildings and hidden alleyways. Two Italian towns were included – Ventimiglia and San Remo, capital of the Italian Riviera. Fashionable resort centers of St. Tropez, Cannes and Antibes were explored. Last, but not least, Monaco with the changing of the guards at the palace and Monte Carlo were fascinating highlights. The French cuisine and the elegant coastline completed memories of a lifetime. Mrs. Peeler described their trip in this way, “This was not a tour but an adventure.”
Those attending, not already mentioned, were Mrs. Bobby Cheeseman, Mrs. Joe Exum, Mrs. Tom Farmer, Mrs. Lowell Fields, Mrs. Tom Gallien, Mrs. G.T. Hall, Mrs. E.B. Pritchett, Mrs. Lee Pritchett, Mrs. James Shore and Mrs. Fred Vowell.
