Martin Police taking applications for 19th Citizen’s Police Academy | | | The Martin Police Department is now accepting applications for members of the 19th session of the Citizen’s Police Academy. This session is scheduled to begin March 6 of this year. The Citizen’s Police Academy is a chance for citizens that live or work in Martin, to get a first hand view of the operations of the Martin Police Department. When someone graduates the Citizen’s Police Academy they are not certified as a police officer, but will have a better understanding of what police officers face everyday. The class will meet one night a week for eight weeks. Classes will be taught in Use of Force, Undercover Drug Operations, Crime Scene Investigation, DUI Enforcement, Criminal Law, Firearms and other areas. Also, during the eight-week class the participants will be required to ride with a Martin police officer at least two times, with one of the ride-alongs to be between the hours of 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. Over 450 citizens have graduated the Citizen’s Police Academy since it began in 1993. Applications can be picked up at the Martin Police Department. Applications can also be obtained from the Martin Police Department’s Web site at www.martindps.org. Applications will be accepted now till Feb. 11. For more information about the Citizen’s Police Academy, please call Captain Sammy Liles at 587-5355. WCP 1.17.08 | | | |
