The vision is in place and the legwork to make it happen has been diligent as construction workers rip out sidewalks and move concrete in downtown Martin. The project has been underway for almost two months and the Mayor of Martin explained there are several months of work ahead before the project completes the vision.
North Lindell Street has seen its share of bypassed vehicles while workers with Allen Searcy Builders Construction Company of Union City inch toward the project completion goal of late spring of this year. As Martin Mayor Randy Brundige described, the City of Martin’s downtown street is undergoing a modern-day transformation.
Brundige said the renovation includes new, wider sidewalks, replacement of water lines, installation of handicap accessible ramps and the addition of more light posts along North Lindell Street.
Residents, as well as visitors, will also see the addition of trees and shrubs along the public thoroughfare.
Brundige said the town also holds a place on the Tennessee Department of Transportation’s list for repaving of the street that hosts part of the historic downtown business area.
The city is taking the project a chunk of concrete at a time, but its patience is projected to pay off by this summer when the transformation is set to offer new life to the downtown area.
