BURNT NOZZLE — Martin Fire Department fireman Brandon McMinn displays a nozzle the department needs to replace after it was charred during a fire.
When it comes to saving lives, the Martin Fire Department is looking ahead to ensure the equipment the department uses is capable for performing the numerous tasks at hand. With the help of a much-needed grant, the MFD is in line to update life-saving tools.
The MFD has received a grant from the Department of Homeland Security, Congressman John Tanner announced.
The $46,598 federal grant is available through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. It will be used to improve operations and safety, Tanner said.
“Our firefighters are instrumental in protecting our communities, and it is important that we provide these men and women with the tools they need to do their jobs safely,” Tanner said. “Providing our first responders with the resources they need is also a strong message of appreciation for the hard work they do.”
Schwahn explained the grant funds will help update hand-held radios, replace defective nozzles and provide the department with extracation tools such as saws.
