Lester Bill Voorhies
Lester Bill Voorhies, 73, of Greenfield, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2008, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Services were held 11 a.m. Thursday at Williams Funeral Home, with Dr. Roy Whaley officiating. Burial was in Highland Cemetery in Greenfield.
Mike Biggs, Jake Biggs, Randy Huffstetler, Jerry Drewry, Brent Little and Willie Coats served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Dr. Nathan Porter, Judge Phil Harris, Tommy Akin, Bobby Rawls and Danny Perry.
Voorhies was born Jan. 1, 1935, in Hohenwald, son of the late Flavel and Irene Anderson Voorhies. He worked for the Weakley County School Systems for 33 years as a teacher with FFA, was a member of the Rotary Club for 50 years, a member of the FFA and was an elder at First Presbyterian Church in Greenfield.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Voorhies of Greenfield; three sons, Brad Voorhies of Tokyo, Japan, Ben Voorhies of Memphis and Brent Duncan of Jackson; one daughter, Leslie Franks of Virginia Beach, Va.; and one brother, George Voorhies of Nashville; and five grandchildren, Michael Franks, Jennifer Franks, Maxwell Voorhies, Luke Voorhies and Sterling Duncan.
He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Waldean Johns and Virginia Rester; and one brother, Bobby Voorhies.
The family requests memorials be made to the First Presbyterian Church and Greenfield schools.
