Hanna Blanchette, 16, of Fulton placed in the Top Five at the Miss Kentucky Teen USA Pageant held recently at the Center for Rural Development in Somerset, Ky.
Fifty-four girls from around the state competed for the title. Following preliminaries on Jan. 5, Miss Blanchette was selected to be one of the 15 finalists to compete for the title on Jan. 6. After the swimsuit and evening gown competitions, she rounded out the Top Five where contestants then answered an interview question on stage. Miss Blanchette was fourth runner-up for the state title. The winner was Shannon Reil of West Van Lear, Ky. Also competing was Loni Grogan of Clinton, Ky., who won a non-finalist award for the interview competition.
“I had the best time and met a lot of really nice girls. I can’t wait to do it again next year,” Miss Blanchette said.
Miss Blanchette added she is grateful to all of the sponsors who helped make it possible for her to participate in this year’s pageant, including her parents, Lynda Brooks of Fulton and Gary Blanchette of Penacook, N.H.; her grandmother, Georgette Blanchette of Auburn, N.H.; Debbie and Ken Venner of Las Flores, Calif.; NCB Realtors; Johanna Fox CPA; Paxton Communications; Byassee Drug Store; Fulton Decorating Center and friends and family.
“Even though it was her first time competing in a big pageant, we hoped she’d make the Top 15, but to make the Top Five is a real honor for her, and I’m very proud. She is a natural,” said Ms. Brooks.
As a Top Five winner, she received a $2,000 renewable scholarship to Murray (Ky.) State University, a gold and diamond ring and earrings, an engraved plaque and other prizes.
Miss Blanchette is a junior at Hickman County (Ky.) High School in Clinton, where she is vice president of her junior class, a member of the Student Council, plays on the women’s volleyball team and participates in many clubs such as FEA and science club and is on the annual staff. Last summer, she represented her school at the Hugh O’Brien Youth Leadership Pro-gram at Transylvania University in Lexington, Ky.
Miss Teen USA, Miss USA and Miss Universe are the premier pageants in the world. The Miss Universe Organization is owned by Donald Trump.
