FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. (AP) — The military says three members of the 101st Airborne Division in Fort Campbell have died in Iraq from injuries they suffered in fighting north of Baghdad.
The Defense Department identified the soldiers as 22-year-old Sgt. David Hart of Lake View Terrace, Calif.; 19-year-old Pfc. Ivan Merlo of San Marcos, Calif.; and 20-year-old Pfc. Phillip Pannier of Washburn, Ill. Merlo and Pannier died in Samarra, Iraq, and Hart died in nearby Balad.
The men were assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team. The military says they died Wednesday from wounds suffered in combat.
