DIABETES CLASS — Wanda Sanders of Union City had her finger pricked Tuesday by LeBonheur Community Outreach’s Josh Talent of Rutherford as part of the newest Dining With Diabetes class being sponsored by the University of Tennessee Extension Service, West Tennessee Regional Health Office, Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City and LeBonheur. During the screening, Mrs. Sanders learned her glucose and cholesterol levels, as well as had her blood pressure checked and height and weight measured. The 22 class participants, who are either diabetics or caregivers for diabetics, are meeting each Tuesday afternoon throughout January at the hospital to learn about diabetes, tests they need to have performed regularly and which foods they should eat and which they should ignore. In March, the participants will have a second screening to see if they’ve been able to improve from their first results. Another class is being scheduled for later this year. For more information, call Benita Giffin at the Extension office at 885-3742.
