‘Refuge’ to begin
A new support group for cancer patients and their families, to be known as Refuge and to be based on the scripture from Psalm 46:1, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble,” will begin monthly meetings Jan. 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the Obion County Public Library.
“Refuge is a support group for anyone who has been affected by cancer — newly-diagnosed patients, family members of caregivers whose loved one is currently fighting the disease or who has lost the battle and cancer survivors,” said Lorraine Gossett, who is facilitating the group. Ms. Gossett is also co-chairman of Obion County Hometown Walk of Hope and has dealt with cancer on a personal level when her teenage son, her mother and many other families members were diagnosed with the illness.
“This group will be about offering compassion, hope and encouragement to those faced with a cancer diagnosis,” she said.
Refuge will meet the fourth Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the library.
