Lyda Jewell (McCaleb) Thompson, 87, of Union City died Jan. 7, 2007, at the Obion County Nursing Home.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at White-Ranson Funeral Home, with Drs. Matthew Wohlfarth and Eddie Mallonee officiating. Burial will follow in New Salem Cemetery at Mason Hall.
Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Bill Townes, Bill Townes Jr., Tom Bartley, William Vickers, Steve Page and Logan Gray. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Stephenson, Dennis Maldonado, Jerry Maldonado, William “Red” Reese, Scott Duncan and Chad Davis.
The family requests memorials be sent to First Baptist Church in Union City.
She was born May 2, 1920, in Trimble, daughter of the late Thomas Lee and Vetra (Hundley) McCaleb. She married Joe F. Thompson on Jan. 18, 1942. He died Aug. 9, 1983.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Union City, Pleasant Valley Community Club, Mason Hall Community Club and Mason Hall Quilters.
She is survived by her son, Joe Thompson of Union City; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jean and Jimmy Jackson of Union City and Ann and Wayne Garrett of Southaven, Miss.; five grandchildren, Ryan Thompson and Amy Duncan, both of Union City, and Angie Dotson, John Brockwell and Jake Brockwell, all of Southaven; four great-grandsons, Kaleb Dotson, Devin Dotson, Kyler Dotson and Dylan Brockwell, all of Southaven; three sisters, Frieda Thurmon of Arizona and Tommye Ruth Griggs and Jacqueline Bartley, both of Indiana; and her brother, Leonard McCaleb of Washington state.
She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Jill Thompson; two brothers, James McCaleb and Bobby McCaleb; and her sister, Clarice Hinson.
