MCKENZIE, Tenn. — Dresden High School graduate Justin Dubruiel was one of three Bethel College football players among the 17 student-athletes from the Mid-South Conference named to the Daktronics-NAIA 2007 Football Scholar-Athlete list. Joining Dubruiel, as honorees from the Wildcats football team were seniors Grady and Knox Baggett from Simpsonville, S.C. All three started and played offensive line for the Wildcats.
“These young men work hard in and out of the classroom. We have been fortunate to have these great student-athletes in our program,” said Bethel head coach Dino Kaklis. “I think Grady and Knox have made 48 starts for us. They haven’t missed a beat on the field or the classroom. That is very rare. And I expect Justin to perform at a high level again for us next year. I am proud of them and they are excellent choices to represent our school.”
In order to be a recipient of the NAIA-Daktronics Scholar-Athlete award, one must fulfill these requirements: the recipient must be a junior or above in academic standing; has been in attendance at the nominating institution a minimum of one full year of attendance; has a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.50 (on a 4.0 scale) at the time of nomination at the nominating institution; has been certified as eligible.
Bethel competes in the NAIA and the Mid-South Conference West Division. The Wildcats finished the year with a No. 4 ranking and made it to the quarterfinals of the NAIA Football Championship Series for the second year in a row.
