To benefit Byars The Messenger. 01.02.08 A benefit for radio personality Stew Byars will be held at 4:30 p.m. Jan. 14 at Olivia’s Opera House on Lindell Street in Martin. Byars was recently diagnosed with cancer. Proceeds from the fund raiser will go to Byars and his wife, Ginger. The event is being sponsored by the group Friends of the Stewman. CDs featuring Byars entitled “Game Show to Go” and “Stick This: Best of Stewman’s Bumper Sticker Promos” will be made available for $10 each, while his DVD “The Best of Club Country” from WLJT will also be available for purchase. T-shirts will be $20 each. Marvin Alexander will hold an auction, with proceeds going to the Byars family, and Larry Morgan will host karaoke. Chris Brinkley will also broadcast “Skyhawk Talk” from Olivia’s Opera House during the benefit. “Stewart has been good to our community throughout the years and now the community wishes to give back to him,” a spokesman said. Those who are unable to attend may wish to make a donation to Byars through an account set up at First State Bank. Donations may be made at any branch location and directed to the account under the name of “Friends of the Stewman.” Those wishing to donate an item for the auction are asked to contact Lynette Wagster at (731) 587-3144.
