A Union City child sustained apparently minor injury when his bicycle collided with a vehicle on New Year’s Eve.
The accident occurred about 12:12 p.m. Monday at North Morgan and East Palmer streets in Union City when 5-year-old Ricky Alexander’s bicycle struck the side of a 2007 Chevrolet Suburban driven by Spencer Eugene Davis, 57, of 908 Casey Circle, Union City, according to a Union City Police Department report.
Davis and a witness told police the child was traveling eastbound on East Palmer Street and tried to slow down before the intersection with North Morgan Street but couldn’t stop and struck the right side of Davis’ vehicle, then fell to the ground. Davis’ vehicle then ran into a street sign at the southwest corner of the intersection.
Police reported that the child sustained scrapes to his back and arms and was returned home by a family member.
Davis’ vehicle received minor damage, according to the report.
