In makeup games held Friday night in Greenfield, the Peabody Tide took two victories from the host Yellowjackets in District 14-A high school basketball action.
The Lady Tide defeated the Lady Yellowjackets, 61-44, in the first contest and the Tide took the second game over the Jackets 67-49.
Peabody jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first quarter of the early game, but Greenfield cut the lead in half with baskets from Jordan Galey and Mallory Robinson. A free throw from Katie McCall brought the Lady Yellowjackets closer at 8-5, but Peabody finished out the quarter on an 11-4 run to take a 19-9 lead after one.
Anthenique Burnett scored eight points in the second frame and the Lady Tide increased the gap to 32-17 at the half.
In the third quarter, Greenfield forged a comeback. Scoring the first four points of the quarter and picking up seven points from Galey, the lead was cut to 10 points, 34-24. Peabody again took back control of the reins in scoring and despite a 3-point basket from Haley Perkins at the buzzer, the Lady Tide advantage grew to 43-29 after three.
Robinson made good on a rare four-point play in the final frame, but with both teams in the bonus, Peabody closed out the contest at the foul line and took the 61-44 win.
Burnett led the Lady Tide with 19 points. Galey scored 17 for Greenfield.
The second contest began with both teams firing blanks from long distance. Reggie McHaney opened the scoring for Greenfield, but Raphael Miller was ready with an answer. With Peabody controlling the offensive boards, the scoring seesawed. A layup from Miller gave the Tide an 11-9 advantage and a free throw from Robert Yancy helped the visitors to a 12-9 first quarter lead.
In the second quarter, Peabody used eight points from Tywan Myers to build a 10-point advantage, 25-15. Greenfield pulled a 4-0 run to slice into the lead, but the Tide held on and took a 33-23 advantage into halftime.
McHaney opened the third quarter with a tough layup and Chris Skinner connected on a three-point play to bring the Yellowjackets closer at 33-28. The comeback continued throughout the quarter and with 2:30 on the clock, a Wes Clark basket for the Orange and Black tied the game at 37. The Tide put together a last-minute run, however, to take a 46-38 lead into the final frame.
The final quarter belonged to the visitors as any attempts at a run by Greenfield were nullified with Tide bonus free throws. Out-scoring the Yellowjackets 21-11, the Tide took the 67-49 win.
Myers led Peabody with 20 points. Miller scored 17. Shane had 11 for Greenfield and McHaney added 10.
