A Union City family received a rude awakening early Sunday when they discovered someone had entered their home and stolen several gifts from under their Christmas tree.
The incident was reported about 3:10 a.m. Sunday at George and Mary Rhenberg’s home at 602 East Main St., according to a Union City Police Department report.
Mr. and Mrs. Rhenberg told police they were awakened by their dog’s barking and then discovered someone had entered their residence and stolen several presents from beneath the tree. Rhenberg said when he went to the back door, he found about 20 gifts stacked outside the back door. He didn’t see anyone in the backyard, though, police reported.
The Rhenbergs and their two children were asleep when the entry occurred. They discovered about 11 gifts missing, as well as Mrs. Rhenberg’s purse and its contents, a bank envelope containing cash, an Xbox video game system and a watch. There were no signs of forced entry, but police believe entry was possibly made through a doggy door, according to the report.
