A police officer was assaulted over the weekend during an incident on North Morgan Street in Union City.
The incident occurred shortly after 2 p.m. Saturday, resulting in the arrest of Loyal Jackie Johnson Jr., 52, of 612 North Morgan St. on charges of assault on an officer, resisting a stop, halt or frisk, public intoxication and disorderly conduct, according to a Union City Police Department report.
Police had responded about 2:05 p.m. to Johnson’s home to investigate someone’s allegedly being in the roadway and possibly being intoxicated. Officers arrived to find several individuals in the street, yelling and pointing at someone on the sidewalk. The individual, identified as Johnson, allegedly motioned for officers to come to him and police reported he was yelling and cursing very loudly. An officer told him to cease and he allegedly started cursing at the officer and then started to go inside his residence. The officer indicated he told him to stop and the man looked at the officer, cursed and tried to open the door, at which point the officer tried to stop him. Johnson allegedly turned and hit the police officer, identified as Kyle Kirk, in the right eye.
Officers went into the residence and the suspect allegedly got on top of another officer, at which time a taser was utilized to subdue him. Johnson appeared to be “very intoxicated,” according to the report.
