Drug charges levied
A Fulton man was charged with drug-related offenses following an incident Tuesday night in Fulton.
Ameil Dermaine Smith, 18, of 301 Seventh St., Fulton, was arrested and charged with first-degree fleeing or evading police, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, trafficking a controlled substance within 1,000 yards of school, trafficking marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to a Fulton Police Department press release.
About 10:36 p.m. Tuesday, Fulton police officers reported they were talking to three subjects in the area of the police department. One of them allegedly would not allow officers to pat him down and became disorderly, then ran from officers while losing his backpack.
While in pursuit, police allegedly saw the man, identified as Smith, drop a suspected bag of marijuana.
Smith was later located and arrested at 514 Harding Court in Fulton. Police found a cell phone, digital scales and numerous plastic baggies in the backpack, with the bag of suspected marijuana weighing about 70 grams, according to police.
