A Union City man has been charged with several offenses after his vehicle allegedly struck the front porch of a home and another vehicle Saturday night.
Jerry Sherrill II, 37, of 4260 Highway 21 North, Union City, was arrested about 9:15 p.m. Saturday and charged with leaving the scene of an accident, reckless endangerment, aggravated assault and vandalism, which stems from an incident a short time earlier at 2306 Norwood Drive in Union City, according to a Union City Police Department report.
Police had responded to a call of a fight and someone allegedly trying to run over another person and ramming the front porch of a home with a car. The suspect was gone when police arrived but witnesses identified him as allegedly being Sherrill.
A witness told police that Sherrill pulled into the yard, hit the front porch, exited the vehicle and went into the house for a short time before coming back out, getting into the car and leaving. About one to two minutes later, Sherrill allegedly re-entered the driveway and intentionally struck Dede Speed’s car, causing damage to the foundation of the residence and destroying two bicycles between the house and the car, according to the police report.
Sherrill allegedly left the scene going east on Norwood Drive and abandoned his vehicle in the area of Norwood Drive and Section Line Road. Police reported he was taken into custody a short time later attempting to return to 2306 Norwood Drive, where the accident and other vandalism had occurred.
After he was taken into custody by police, Sherrill allegedly became violent while sitting in the back seat of a patrol car and began head-butting a car window, according to a police report. He was warned to calm down but allegedly became more violent and began kicking the window. The window came off track prior to its glass shattering.
