Playhouse 2007 season closing soon

Time is running out to see three fabulous shows at the Cumberland County Playhouse in Crossville, TN. The stirring new musical CAPTAINS COURAGEOUS, sponsored by Dr. Stanley Bise, MD, is showing through December 19th. OLIVER! based on the classic Dickens tale, sponsored by M. Stewart Galloway MD Cumberland Eye Care, is showing through December 22nd. The Playhouse’s traditional Christmas favorite A SANDERS FAMILY CHRISTMAS, sponsored by Cumberland County Bank, is showing through December 23rd.

A sellout when we premiered it in 1995, CAPTAINS COURAGEOUS is filled with powerful sailors, choruses, and the drama and majesty of the sea. CAPTAINS COURAGEOUS follows the adventures of Harvey Cheyne, the arrogant and spoiled son of a railroad tycoon. Washed overboard from his father’s luxury liner and rescued by Portuguese fisherman Manuel (Stephen Mitchell Brown), the spoiled rich kid at first demands to be taken to his destination in Europe, and fights the regimen of the ship. But working to earn his keep and laboring alongside the crew teaches the boy respect, and he is then respected in return. The challenging singing and acting role of Harvey is played by Cumberland County’s 12 year old Isaiah Banegas in his Playhouse debut.
Oliver’s journey takes him from the orphanage to the rough and tumble life of Fagin’s gang. OLIVER! features Jason Ross as Fagin, Leah Jennings as Nancy, Austin Price and John Keating as The Artful Dodger, Jefferson Behan as Mr. Bumble, and Nicole Begue as Widow Corney. Noah Pryor of Roane County and Brad Sells of Overton County alternate the role of Oliver. Stars of the show also include the three dozen Tennessee kids and teens from several counties who join with the professional company and volunteers to portray Fagin’s gang of boys and the workhouse orphans.

In A SANDERS FAMILY CHRISTMAS, the Sanders family returns to Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in the mountains of North Carolina on Christmas Eve. The family has gathered for on last singin’ at the church before young Dennis ships out for boot camp. All are invited to become a member of Reverend Oglethorpe’s congregation for a nostalgic visit in an old-time church in 1941. The cast features Carol Irvin in her debut as Mama Vera Sanders, with Ross Schexnayder as Reverend Oglethorpe, Richard Daniel as Burl, Chelsea Nye as Denise, Jesse Graham as June, Tommy Hancock as Uncle Stanley, and Daniel Black and Colt Irvin alternating as Dennis.
