Annual Christmas luncheon held

Annual Christmas luncheon held
wcp 12-13-07
The Sharon Church of Christ once again hosted a Christmas luncheon for the widows and widowers in the Sharon community. As guests entered the gaily-decorated fellowship hall, Helen Gilbert, Britney Gilbert and Kaci Arnold registered them and Cindy Gaylord presented each one with a Christmas nametag. Coleman Hamlin welcomed the group after everyone was seated and gave the meal blessing. Members of the congregation served the Christmas dinner.
This marked the 29th year the church has had the pleasure of beginning the Christmas season for the town’s widow and widowers with a turkey, dressing and all the trimmings luncheon. Each guest was also presented a favor made by Martha Cox and her granddaughters.
In addition to the local citizens, Mrs. Mary Thomas Burton Dennis, formerly of Sharon and now a resident of Nashville, was also an honored guest for this occasion. Her niece, Elizabeth Waggner, brought her.
After the meal, James Gary Roberts led the group in singing an array of Christmas songs. The awarding of door prizes followed. Each person present was a lucky winner. Those in attendance were Evelyn Ary, Martha Jim Roberts, Pauline Tharpe, Carolyn Lowrance, Elsie Essary, David Gaylord, L. V. Fuqua, Lorene White, Dimple Newson, Martha Mosely, Catherine White, Lois Robey, George Stricklin, Ophela Taylor, Justine Bell, Loys Wade Mount, Ruby Nell King, Aileen Edwards, Norma Moore, Sue Brewer, Rosie Connell, Eleanor Judy, Mertie Smith, Mary Lee, Orla Cotham, Verna Marcus, Dimple Roberts, Robert Johnson and Martha McDaniel.
The church looks forward to hosting this event next for the 30th time.
