Cumberland County Playhouse Announces 2008 Season
Cumberland County Playhouse in Crossville, TN is pleased to announce its upcoming 2008 Season of plays, musicals and concerts which opens February 1, 2008 with a fully mounted production of the classic musical PETER PAN, continues with a return of the Disney hit HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL for March and April, and includes the American Heartland Premier of FLIGHT OF THE LAWNCHAIR MAN in the first production of this new musical outside of the New York and Los Angeles areas. The 2008 season is dubbed “A PLAYHOUSE FAMILY SEASON”, in honor of the theater’s many Founding Families, the thousands of families which attend the Crossville theater each year, and the extended “Playhouse Family” of volunteers, sponsors, season ticket holders, resident company and staff who help serve one of Tennessee’s largest nonprofit performance audiences. Season tickets and holiday gift certificates are now on sale by calling the box office at 931-484-5000. “We offer an exceptional group of family musicals this season,” notes Playhouse Board Chair Rob Harrison of Crossville Plateau Properties, Inc, and Tracey Hughes Vice Board Chair in joining Producer Jim Crabtree to announce the 2008 Season. “PETER PAN, sponsored by Dr. Stanley Bise, M.D. of Crossville, flies on our stage for the first time in almost twenty years, and our sold out HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL is coming back for those who missed it.” CCP Education Sponsors Tracey and Jeff Hughes, of Hughes Real Estate Services, joined Harrison and Crabtree for the announcement. Like past projects including OKLAHOMA and LES MISERABLES, which have featured hundreds of students from over thirty Cumberland region schools, these shows enable talented, exceptional students to work with Playhouse professionals on a challenging schedule for a broad audience. Both PETER PAN and HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL are on the CCP Mainstage, sponsored by VF Outlet. Spring Mainstage shows include the CCP Dance and Education Program’s production, A NEW YORK STATE OF MIND sponsored by Hughes Real Estate Services and FLIGHT OF THE LAWNCHAIR MAN, sponsored by Crossville, Inc. A NEW YORK STATE OF MIND will run May 1st – 4th. FLIGHT OF THE LAWNCHAIR MAN opens May 15th. “I fell in love with this show in the New York Staged Reading Festival presented by the National Alliance for Musical Theater,” says Jim Crabtree. “Its newly available through Theatrical Rights Worldwide, the new international licensing agency.” The Charles and Anna Belle O’Brien Adventure Theater, sponsored by Wyndham Resorts at Fairfield Glade, opens with the return of the women of a Tennessee Baptist church returning in FIRST BAPTIST OF IVY GAP on March 20th, sponsored by Crossville Ford-Lincoln-Mercury. It’s joined in rep on April 3rd by SMOKE ON THE MOUNTAIN HOMECOMING sponsored by First National Bank of Tennessee, as the beloved Sanders Family and Pastor Oglethorpe return to the Playhouse for the fifteenth consecutive season. Cracker Barrel Old Country Store celebrates 25 years as a Playhouse Sponsor with the Cycle World Premiere of the entire Sanders Family Southern Baptist Trilogy, seen for the first time anywhere – all three shows, in order (for two weeks only, October 25th to November 5th!). SMOKE HOMECOMING is joined by the original SMOKE ON THE MOUNTAIN (August 14th to November 4th) and A SANDERS FAMILY CHRISTMAS (opening October 23rd). Sponsors for SMOKE ON THE MOUNTAIN and SANDERS are Cracker Barrel Old Country Store and Cumberland County Bank. In a parallel to FIRST BAPTIST and the Sanders Trilogy, the women of a southern African-American church are featured in CROWNS, joining the Adventure Theater rep on October 10th in a production directed by Harry Bryce (Ain’t Misbehavin’, Having Our Say). Filled with spirituals and hymns, CROWNS tells of traditional southern black women, with Sunday hats and white gloves, who share heritage with a street-smart, jeans-and-ball-cap-wearing, rap-singing niece, sent south to her aunt when a brother is killed on her Brooklyn street. Cultures clash, yet families bond through music and faith. Other 2008 projects and their sponsors include Disney’s BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (Looney & Chadwell Title Services and Kenneth & Carol Ann Chadwell), Gilbert and Sullivan’s THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s SOUTH PACIFIC (Comfort Suites, Holiday Inn Express, and Hampton Inn), THE NUTCRACKER (Hughes Real Estate Services), and an Irving Berlin musical seen in a recent season (but for which advertising is temporarily restricted!), sponsored by Dr. M. Stewart Galloway, M.D. Cumberland Eye Care. Tickets can be purchased from the Playhouse Box Office at (931) 484 – 5000.
