Wesley O’Neal Fortner Jr., 74, of Waverly, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Oct. 18, at Waverly United Methodist Church, with the Rev. David Spencer, Brad Withrow, Melvin Durham and Arun Subbas officiating. Burial was at Ebenezer Cemetery. Luff-Bowen Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Fortner was born April 2, 1933, in Birmingham, Ala., the son of the late Wesley O’Neal Fortner Sr. and the late Gladys Yarbrough Fortner. He was an accounting professor at the University of Tennessee at Martin for 20 years and a retired CPA. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of Waverly United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Jo Ann Lynch Fortner; three children, Lesa (David) Hurst of Phoenix, Ariz., Scott (Angela) Fortner of Martin and Lynne (Michael) Albonetti of Cordova; three stepchildren, Lawrence “Alton” (Charlotte) Hethcoat II of Brentwood, Charles (Ann) Hethcoat of Kingston and Kim (Fred) Hethcoat Vondra of Cookeville; seven grandchildren; and eight step grandchildren.
